Beginning Guitar
Review the notes on strings 1, 2, and 3 and practice playing through each exercise by looking only at the notes and not at the names of the notes.
Practice Exercise 17, Ode to Joy, and 18, Blues, BUT before you practice these pieces, be sure to practice the scale notes below for at least 5 minutes.
Remember to use your 2nd finger when playing the A at the second fret on the third string.
Remember to pick the notes with the 1st finger of your right hand and not with your thumb. Rest your thumb on the 5th string as you play the scale using your 1st (index) finger of your right hand.
Say the names of the notes as you play them. The notes for the scale should be played in the following order:
Third string - open (G)
Third string - second fret (A)
Second string - open (B)
Second string - first fret (C)
Second string - third fret (D)
First string - open (E)
First string - first fret (F)
First string - third fret (G)
First string - first fret (F)

Intermediate Guitar
Review and practice the notes on the 1st and 2nd string using the handouts that were provided two weeks ago. If you need a new handout, please let me know.
Memorize the notes so that you can play them without writing in the names of the notes on the handouts.
Practice Exercise 43, Amazing Grace, and practice both the chords and melody to this piece. Also practice exercise 44 but only practice the melody (tune) to this one.
Advanced Guitar
Review the information on the handout that were provided today for Minor Scales. Memorize the first pattern on the handout for the Natural Minor Scale (the one at the top), which is whole, half, whole, whole, half, whole, whole..
Practice Exercises 76 through 83.
We are considering Adagio Cantabile, which is the first piece in the Essential Elements Classical Themes book, as a group/ensemble piece. Play through the piece playing only the line for Guitar I (top line) and next week we will discuss whether this is a suitable piece for us.
