Beginning Guitar
Practice at least 15 to 20 minutes 3 times a week.
Study the information on page 8 of the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Complete Edition book (Notes on the first string) and practice exercises 1 through 8 on pages 8 and 9. For those who have Book 1, not the Complete Edition, this material is exactly the same but on pages 6 and 7. Remember to use the 1st finger for the note behind the first fret and the 3rd finger for the note behind the third fret. Be sure to have your thumb opposite your 1st or 2nd finger of your left hand so that you get a strong pinching action and remember to use the tips of your fingers (not the fatty part) to press down on the string. Please reach out to me directly if you need a copy of the material while you are trying to buy the book of if you have any questions.

Intermediate Guitar
Practice at least 15 to 20 minutes 3 times a week.
Review the chords C and G7 on 19 of the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Complete Edition book or page 17 for those who only have Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1. Practice switching from C to G7 and back again multiple times. There is no need to strum as you practice switching chords with your left hand until you feel that you can comfortably move from one chord shape to the other. Once you feel comfortable, practice strumming once and counting to 4 before changing to the other cord, just as we practiced in class. Practice playing the melody and the chords to Tom Dooly that is on the same page as the chord diagrams.  Please reach out to me directly if you need a copy of the material while you are trying to buy the book of if you have any questions.

Advanced Guitar
Practice exercises 68 through 72 on pages 32 through 34 of the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Complete Edition book (pages 30 through 32 for those with the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1.)
Practice the upper line (Level 1) and the lower line (2A) of "What Then Is Love". Pay special attention to the voicing in the lower part by being sure to hold the notes for the full duration. Observe the recommended fingering as this will help with note durations.
Please reach out to me directly if you need a copy of the material or if you have any questions.
Beginning Band
Everyone practice at home setting up your instruments like we did in class. Start practicing #1, 2, 3, &4 from the book. Percussion make sure it’s the second half of your book (Mallet part of the book). Trumpets practice buzzing before putting the instrument together.

Intermediate Band
Practicing clapping and saying the Rhythm Studies measures 21-40 and then playing the rhythm on a single note of your choice. Practice #67, 68, & 69 from the book. Trumpets and Clarinet practice your warm up coming down the C Major scale. Percussion remember we are jumping back to snare drum; practice the Fundamentals for Band for Monday along with the book assignments.

Advanced Band
Everyone practice warm ups at a faster tempo for technical skills. Everyone work on the road map and the ending to Carmen. Also work on the separation of the notes with the accents. Start reading the new piece I handed out Symphony #9, practice it slowly and practice clapping and counting rhythms.
Prelude Strings
Take a closer look at your Essential Elements book on page 4 and 5. Make sure you are counting carefully and learning the note names. Go on to pages 6 and 7 and make sure your fingers are in the right place.

Beginning Strings
Keep working on your finger placement on each string. Pages 6 thru 9 help with the D string so play each page until it gets comfortable. Once you feel comfortable, move to page 10 with the A string. Focus on getting your finger placement just right.

Intermediate Strings
Keep working on page 29 and doing each exercise faster. Work on part A and B for #91 and #92 so we can use them as warm-ups. Keep moving forward and get to page 31! feel comfortable playing ever song up to this point.

Advanced Strings
Really work on the second page of Shchedryk. The 3 parts divide there and I need each one of you to feel comfortable with that part. Continue practice with Contredanse and focus closely on the accidentals in the Concerto in D minor.
Choir I
Practice Do, Mi, Sol hand signs. Practice singing Land of the Silver Birch and Canoe Song.

Review Lines and Spaces.

Choir 2
Practice all hand signs AND singing along with them. Practice singing Seing Low Sweet chariot very smoothly and with our good posture rules. Memorize Lines and Spaces.
